Prepare for Warfare 1944
Plenty of good news from developer Con Artist lately. Shortly after releasing Crush the Castle they’ve made the first details about their sequel to Warfare 1917 public and there’s plenty to be excited about.
The World War II sequel to Warfare 1917, Warfare 1944 aims to bring the Warfare series to another level. Rising out of the trenches and onto the battlefield of Normandy, Warfare 1944 sees the U.S Army take on the German Wermacht. Gameplay has been overhauled giving a more strategic and in-depth experience than that of the first game. New unit types, support mechanics and a resource system will dramatically change the way the Warfare series is played.
The bew features include a 3 flank deployment system, new resource based unit production more in line with traditional real-time strategy games, new mission types including defence and objective based missions, all new campaigns and skirmish maps and brand new upgrade trees. Furthermore, players will be introduced to new units in the form of bazooka teams, mortar teams and medics. Units now have a level of interaction not seen in the first game, the type of units you have deployed will have a great impact on what options are available to you. New gear such as grenades, smoke mortars as well as new abilities will be available in the upgrades menu and deployable at your will on the battlefield.
Officer units on both teams have been been given the responsibility of managing all large fire support. Rather than just calling in an artillery strike, you will need an officer on the ground to spot out your target before unleashing destruction. Support weapons include paratroopers, artillery, air support and smoke rounds.
Moving out of the trenches and into the open means that your troops will need cover. With three possible flanks to deploy your troops on, you’ll need to make decisions about which path has the best cover for your units. Cover is graded depending on what it is made of and affects how well protected your units will be. Stone walls are nearly always the better option than hiding behind that rickety fence.
Last but not least, expected release will be somewhere coming June. Warfare 1944 will surely be a milestone in free online flash gaming history considering the new features and the reputation of developer Con Artist. More details and screenshots will be coming soon!
